250,000 New Brunswickers Pay Double Property Tax
New Brunswick is the only province in Canada that charges a double property tax on apartments. A double tax means that apartment owners are taxed by their municipality and then again by the provincial government for all non-owner-occupied residential buildings.
That cost is passed directly on to the 250,000 renters across the province. This unnecessary tax costs you money and drives away investment from our province.
The NB Apartment Owners Association calls on the provincial Government to eliminate this tax now!
If the government removes the tax, landlords are committing to a three-year freeze on rents in New Brunswick. That represents an average savings of $1800 for renters across New Brunswick over a three-year period.
